Purpose

The purpose of this project is to immerse kindergarten students in a comprehensive exploration of peace-building by engaging them in storytelling, creative expression, and community interaction. Through historical narratives and interactive activities, students will develop cultural intelligence and multilingual skills while learning to advocate for peace in their daily lives. This project aims to cultivate empathy, collaboration, and critical thinking, empowering students to become active peace builders within their community and beyond.

Learning goals

Students will explore the history of the Yan'an Nursery during the Anti-Japanese War, understanding the impact of war on children and the significance of peace through storytelling and role-playing. They will develop skills in creating informative texts, using technology to gather and present information, and engaging in collaborative feedback sessions to refine their narratives. Through interactive activities and community engagement, students will learn to advocate for peace, build cultural intelligence, and design solutions for peace-building in their communities.

Products

Students will create a 'Peace Time Capsule' containing letters, drawings, and small objects that represent their visions of peace. Additionally, they will contribute to a class book of peace stories, each adding a page with illustrations and narratives. These products will be shared with the local library and community members during the 'Peace Builders Fair' and 'Peace Day' event.

Launch

Begin the project with a 'Peace Storytelling Circle,' where students gather in a circle to share personal or fictional stories about peace. Encourage them to use puppets or props to enhance their storytelling. Follow the storytelling with a group discussion on how these stories inspire actions towards peace-building, setting the stage for the project's focus on becoming peace advocates.

Exhibition

Students will host a 'Peace Builders Fair' where they set up interactive booths featuring activities, games, and crafts focused on peace-building. Each booth will offer hands-on experiences, such as drawing peace symbols, creating collaborative art pieces, or engaging in role-playing scenarios that promote understanding and empathy. Community members are invited to visit the fair, participate in activities, and learn from the students' insights and creations. This exhibition allows students to share their learning journey and demonstrate their commitment to fostering peace in their community.
