Purpose

This project is designed to engage elementary students in playful, hands-on activities that promote the transfer of skills across different contexts. Through experiential learning such as journey mapping and collaborative workshops, students will explore their identities and develop strategies for applying their skills in new situations. The experience encourages students to actively reflect on their learning journey, fostering a sense of belonging and self-efficacy while enhancing critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Learning goals

Students will develop strategies for skill transfer by engaging in playful, hands-on activities and peer-led discussions. They will enhance their self-directed learning through feedback and self-reflection, fostering a deeper understanding of their identity and sense of belonging. Critical thinking and problem-solving will be emphasized as students collaboratively explore innovative approaches to real-world challenges. Effective communication skills will be honed through presentations and reflective video diaries, allowing students to articulate their learning journey and growth.

Products

Students will craft a collaborative mural that visually represents their learning journey, showcasing key skills and their potential applications in new contexts. They will engage in playful role-playing scenarios to develop and present strategies for skill transfer, fostering creativity and deeper understanding. Additionally, students will create short, reflective video clips documenting their learning experiences and skill applications, which will be shared in a supportive peer-led discussion. These hands-on projects will provide meaningful opportunities for students to explore and express their growth in skill transfer and self-directed learning.

Launch

Begin with an interactive 'Journey Mapping Session' where students create a playful, hands-on visual map of their learning journey using art supplies and craft materials. They will identify key skills they've developed, explore new contexts where these skills might be useful, and engage in peer discussions to share ideas and reflections. This activity encourages students to recognize their existing capabilities and imagine how they can apply them in new and exciting ways.

Exhibition

Students will culminate their learning experience by organizing a playful and interactive showcase event where they present their journey maps and video diaries, highlighting skill transfer and personal growth. Teachers will support students in creating hands-on exhibits that allow attendees to engage with the presenters through activities and games related to the skills learned. The event will also feature a collaborative discussion circle where students share insights gained from peer-led reflection sessions and skills transfer workshops, fostering an environment of shared learning and discovery.
