Purpose

The purpose of this project is to explore the impact of social media on university students' lives and develop strategies for fostering meaningful face-to-face interactions. Through hands-on activities and collaboration with campus clubs, students will investigate the balance between digital and real-world connections. This project aims to enhance students' self-directed learning skills, encouraging them to reflect on their social media usage and its effects on their personal and academic life.

Learning goals

Students will develop self-directed learning skills by engaging in reflective practices and utilizing feedback to enhance their understanding of social media's impact on personal and academic life. They will improve their communication and networking abilities through interactive workshops and real-life social activities. Additionally, students will explore strategies for balancing social media use with face-to-face interactions, fostering deeper connections within the university community.
Competencies
  • Self Directed Learning - Students use teacher and peer feedback and self-reflection to monitor and direct their own learning while building self knowledge both in and out of the classroom.

Products

Students will develop a multimedia portfolio that includes a reflective video diary, capturing their daily social media usage and face-to-face interactions. This portfolio will showcase the impact of these interactions on their personal and academic life. Additionally, students will create digital storytelling projects that document their journey towards achieving a balance between social media and real-life connections. These projects will be presented at the 'Campus Connection Festival' for peer review and feedback.

Launch

Kick off the project with the 'Face-to-Face Fiesta,' where students participate in interactive workshops focused on honing communication and networking skills. Collaborate with campus clubs to host a social mixer, allowing students to practice these skills in real-time. This event sets the stage for students to explore the balance between digital and real-life interactions, encouraging them to reflect on their own social media habits.

Exhibition

Students will showcase their multimedia portfolios at the Campus Connection Festival, presenting their findings and strategies for balancing social media and real-life interactions. The festival will feature live demonstrations of alternative social activities, such as board games, sports, and arts, organized in collaboration with campus clubs. Attendees will engage with student presentations and participate in interactive activities that promote face-to-face connections, fostering a campus-wide dialogue on social media usage and its impact on personal and academic life.
